Nursing

1. What are the pros of taking up nursing as a profession?

It is a professional course.  It is a service-oriented job where you do service to mankind, you help people.  There is job security, you can get a job anywhere in the world.  You get to meet lots of people.  There is no saturation for this profession, there is lots of opportunities.  You can specialize in particular departments like oncology, cardiology and become more employable as specialty nurses or you can take up home nursing for just one patient where it is less demanding or tiring.  It is easy to get job as a fresher as most courses give you ample hands-on training.

2. What are cons of taking up nursing as a profession?
   
Night duty and shifts.  It is a very demanding and stressful job where you have to be on your feet a lot.  It deals with diseases, communicable too.  You would also have to deal with bad and difficult patients because most of the patients are on their worst day of their lives and they would like to show their irritation on someone.

3. What is the salary average from freshers to superintendents in Chennai for nurses?

Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 3,00,000 per annum

4. What are the job opportunities for nurses?

Nurses are employed in hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes.  Home Health nurses take care of patients in their homes.  Boarding schools employ nurses to provide first aid and take care of their sick children.  Nurses are also employed by the Military.  Nurses are employed in Cruise ships.  Industries and Factories also emply nurses to take care of their sick or injured staff.

5. What are alternative jobs for nurses?

Nurses are also employed as teaching staff in Nursing Colleges, in the BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) industry as Medical Transcriptionists, Medical Coders, Records Analyst and Online Tutoring.  They also take up desk job as front office staff for private doctors.  Some nurses are also employed as Customer Service Representatives.
